Location
This photo was taken while out walking on a family camping trip in Central Otago . I had previously look of a map of the local area and the lake caught my eye.Time
Taken sometime in the afternoon while a friend and I were out walking and exploring an area to look at the possibility of going ice skating there in winter. Photography was not the main aim.Lighting
Was trying to show the range of colours from the water to the cliff. The algae around this edge was quite reddish and seemed to complement the cliff. Not my ideal time to shoot but just made the most of the moment.Equipment
Shot with a Canon 600D - 16-85mm lens and CPL filter. Hand held as was travelling light. Shot wide open.Inspiration
Had not been here before and found the cliff erosion and colours quite interesting - along with the colour of the water at the edge. I was thinking that it might make a good photo.Editing
Shot in RAW so the usual Lightroom adjustments. Cliff shadow was brought out a bit to show the layers. A tad of clarity and saturation. In my camera bag
Sony a6500 body - Kit lens, 16mm 1.4 Prime ND and CPL filters Hood, Sony RX100iii Always have a small tripod and sometimes a larger one.Feedback
Always take a camera and grab the moment. For me it is trying to find places that others have not discovered. If it is a popular place try and get a different angle - or look for something that no one else has noticed. The area where this was taken is very popular but after looking over a map I found this spot that is harder to get to - especially for people that don't stop for long. Knowing what attracts your eye as well..... Once you find an interesting place plan to return with your camera (if you can). I have been back and taken some worthwhile shots here.
