Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo in Hinckley Lake, a park found in a southern suburb of Cleveland, Ohio.

Time

We had been hiking, and just generally goofing off when we came across this set of steps. The year before we had done a similar composition in a park, everyone was fascinated by it so the kids decided they wanted to do another one. It was a perfect overcast day so I didn’t need to worry about the exposure in this multi photo shoot.

Lighting

It was early afternoon and full overcast so I decided this would work out pretty good.

Equipment

I set my tripod up took a couple of test shots with the remote trigger and away we went. At the time I had a Olympus E-410 I never really had a chance to use that camera to it’s full potential before I switched to Nikon

Inspiration

This photo was taken back in 2010, since I was, and still am in the IT field I loved learning software, so I was more inspired by taking photos to edit then actually worried about my camera settings and capturing the moment. Luckily I think I did both ok. It also made a great memory of the day with my kids.

Editing

I used Photoshop essentials to process this composite, since this was my seconded attempt at it, and I had studied a little more on the importance of layers I would say I have about 8hrs in post.

In my camera bag

My knowledge of photography as grown since this was captured, and some of my equipment now includes Nikon D7100, D750, my go to lens is a Tamron 24-70 2.8, also love my Nikkor 50mm 1.8, also have a Tamron 70-300mm, nothing special tripod (hey it works) and remote trigger (shutter boss) and various other lights, and equipment.

Feedback

Honestly if I was to try and reproduce this, I would probably fail as now I seem to over complicate things, since I feel I have a better understanding of photography I tend to over think (if that makes sense) it has been about 5 years since we attempted to do this again, but now that I have been asked to answer these question I might just retry this soon.
