The first bird i managed to get a photo of, in Mexico was this very obliging Golden-cheeked Woodpecker Melanerpes chrysogenys. It flew across the road and sat on the tree trunk for at least 30 minutes and sometimes coming withing 5 feet of me. i took many photos, but this is my favourite as it shows a very large grub in its beak.
