Behind The Lens

Location

This was my first work with a model. The photo was taken in my home studio, with pretty hard to work conditions at the time. All I had then, was an about 3 to 3 meters space, no backgrounds, no facilities. No knowledge on my part what to ask from the model, nor experience from her side how to act.

Time

Don't really remember the hour, the session took part in the afternoon. At this time there is quite some sunlight in the space I took the photo.

Lighting

The lighting for that picture was too sharp. I made improvised filters and then it all became too dark. So I had to take quite some same-pose picture in order to get an acceptable result.

Equipment

Nikon D70, no tripod, and external flash was used as well.

Inspiration

A few days before taking that photo I was impressed by a pin-up session featuring the 60ties spirit. I had a friend who was attracted by the idea to pose and I let her see that publication. She was charmed, too. We've brainstormed what exactly our own session would look like, and came to the conclusion, that an 80-ties spirit was more like us. Then a research of outfit, adequate make up and an idea of posing took their time. When I finally set the scene to take the picture, both of us decided there was something missing. Thus the glass appeared. Not wine in there, it's a berry juice. Pretty convincing though.

Editing

I've had to. The ligthing was poor, and so were my light compensation skills at the time. Luckily, I manage Gimp quite well, so I've spent some time adjusting light and quitting wrinckles on the background.

In my camera bag

I still walk around with my old Nikon D70. As I do belong the old school, once I get used to a device, have hard time to change.

Feedback

The pictures occur in the mind first. Visualize. Have concept. When the session start, make your camara part of your body. Make it be your eye. Make it see and the result is guaranteed.
