Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in a garden box in my back yard.

Time

When I took this photo, it was late in the evening. I remember having to rush in order to get my photos before the sun went down.

Lighting

All of the lighting was natural, I try and keep my setups fairly minimal.

Equipment

This was shot with a Pentax K-50, with a 90mm macro lens.

Inspiration

I really like Star Wars, but I feel like I don't always get to see the scene that I want to see. So I figured i go out and make it. Nothing in particular inspired this scene, other than the materials I had on hand ( old ash from a fire and a couple of stormtroopers)

Editing

Everything was done in camera! I try to stay away from post-processing.

In my camera bag

Normally i've got my trusty Pentax, my macro lens, a remote shutter release, a can of compressed air, and a hand full of toys such as stormtroopers or aliens!

Feedback

Depth of field is crucial to create the look I go for. The shallower the better, (in most cases) it allows for the action figures to look more life sized rather than a few toys in the yard. Camera angles are also important, make sure you get on the eye level of your subject!
