Watson Lake, Yukon. One of the most famous of the landmarks along the Alaska Highway was started by a homesick GI in 1942, and is now one of the attractions which make Watson Lake, at Kilometer 980 of the highway (Historic Mile 635), a must-stop. Behind The Lens

Location

Was driving the Alcan Highway from Alaska to the states when we saw this "Sign Post Forest" at Watson Lake, Yukon. One of the most famous of the landmarks along the Alaska Highway was started by a homesick GI in 1942, and is now one of the attractions which make Watson Lake, at Kilometer 980 of the highway (Historic Mile 635), a must-stop. Bucket list maybe?

Time

It was between 1-3pm.

Lighting

Since the sun was still up you can see the shadows dancing on the ground. The lighting was great for all the colors, sizes and array of signs.

Equipment

Honestly, it was just taken on my iPhone 4S - I was just being a tourist...

Inspiration

I liked the look of all the signs- all in one place and the fact that you could add to the already 72,000 already there! (this shot is only get a glimpse of how many are really there)

Editing

No. Point and shoot only.

In my camera bag

Since this was taken on my cell phone- I just had an great opportunity and enough "charge" on my phone to make it happen. Cell phone service isn't always available on the Alcan-especially in Canada- but the camera still worked...

Feedback

Look for shots that appeal to you, that tell a story. Imagine how many others have passed along this same route. Each sign has a place it came from and was added there along with all the others. Quite amazing!
