Love the juxtaposition of mobile phones, veils, black and panther patterns. All the contradictions of the image seem to capture the interesting times we live in.... :-)

Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo at Sea World in Florida.

Time

It was a typical swampy Florida summer day and I remember being drenched and miserable.

Lighting

The light was intense.

Equipment

Nikon Baby! As much as I can cram in my Domke bag.

Inspiration

I was a female military combat photojournalist who has served in the Middle East and have been exposed to Sharia Law although seldom witness it to this degree in the US. The irony of the juxtaposition made me title the photo "Heard But Not Seen,"

Editing

Nope.

In my camera bag

Two cameras, a wide angle, a macro, a zoom lens, and steno pad and pens ... and ... snacks, a tooth brush, spare contact lenses, gum, any meds I might need like my epi-pen, batteries, and a flashlight -- all in case I got stranded and that has happened many times in the field.

Feedback

Please treat all subjects with dignity and respect. In retrospect, I am not sure I would do the same photo now as sensitivities could make these women feel exploited in our society. I try so hard to not cross that line. I don't believe in doing anything to get the story. I am pretty old school.
