Behind The Lens

Location

I took this at the hawk conservacy in Amport near Andover.

Time

It was taken on July in the afternoon about 14-15:00.

Lighting

The light was good but being under a leanto and the sun just covered with clouds makes it just right.

Equipment

I fortunately just purchased a Sigma ?72mm f:3.5-6.8 28-300mm zoom lens. Using my Sony a300 camera. No tripod.

Inspiration

I've always loved photographing wild life especially birds. I only had my camera since Xmas and wanted to try out the new lens. I took the family to the conseracy for a day out, and what a better place to try my new equipment and new hobby.

Editing

To be honest I can not remember, I don't think I did. This is just plane old JPEG and untouched. If I did I usually just (using PhotoShop Elements 3 then!) click auto enhance tab or slightly adjust the lighting levels. But I really try my best to get a perfect shot so that I don't have to do post- processing.

In my camera bag

Sony a300 camera, sigma 28-300mm f:3.5.-6.8 zoom lens+UV filter. Sony f/3.5-5.6 18-55mm SAM. Also 2 spare batteries and a lens cleaning kit is a must! Because you never know what birds will get up to or do especially in flight!! :)

Feedback

Not being a pro the only advice I can give is patience, if it looks good through the viewfinder just snap it quick. Plus take a few over and under exposed pictures. Basically if you think the natural light, subject/object are ready to be frozen in time snap away.
