Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in the woods behind my home in North Carolina. It was early spring and the cherry blossoms were just starting to bloom.

Time

My absolute favorite time of day: the 'golden hour' before sunset.

Lighting

There were lots of trees in the background which helped to shield direct sunlight. We had a wonderful warm light, which played perfectly off the golden colored shrubbery around LC.

Equipment

Nikon 3200 with a 50mm manual focus lens.

Inspiration

I have a fabulous neighbor who enjoys being my model when needed. I was trying to get more comfortable with my 50mm lens that day and the light was so wonderful that I couldn't pass up the opportunity to practice.

Editing

I typically use Lightroom CC for my processing needs. I did warm the light up a little bit from the original photo.

In my camera bag

I know live by my 35mm lens. I also have the 50mm and an 85mm lens. My next purchase will probably be a larger zoom lens for weddings.

Feedback

It is all about timing and guidance/posing. Telling your clients exactly what you want them to do and when. With children I try to make it more natural with less instructions. For this shot I called her name and she looked up. Always have your camera ready to shoot!
