OUTSTANDING CAPTURE. Must have been a wonderful treat to see these precious beings since they will more than likely be extinct in ten years.

Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at the Addo Elephant National Park in South Africa. We were on our way back from a game drive late afternoon, and then this roadblock. We stopped, switched the car off and just sat still. The herd walked down the road to just in front of our car, and then turned and dissapeared into the bush.

Time

Late afternoon, on our way back from a game drive.

Lighting

I suppose it was golden hour ;-) As you can see, the shadows are long with the sun almost hitting the elephants at right angles.

Equipment

Canon SX 50 HS. No other equipment.

Inspiration

It was just an awe-inspiring moment. Before taking the photo we actually just sat, awe struck, for a moment.

Editing

Hardly any, little bit of contrast and a very slight crop.

In my camera bag

Depends, either the Canon SX 50 HS with Canon Speedlite and charging and cleaning equipment, or the old trusty Canon 400D with 18-55 and 90-300mm Zoom lenses.

Feedback

Respect for the wild animals and patience. I stopped the moment we saw them, only their backs were visible. By sitting quietly they came to me.
