Behind The Lens

Location

I made this shot in the Butterfly-Garden on the Island Mainau, Bodensee, Germany. A wonderful location for such photos. :-)

Time

It was around 2 pm. It was a sunny and cloudy day. But there was a good light in the house to make some beautiful pictures.

Lighting

I waited about 10 minutes but this butterfly won't open his wings. But it was ok.

Equipment

I work wth a CANON EOS 6D. In this case without tripod or flash. Just real light. And it needs some shots to have a clear and sharp one.

Inspiration

I love butterflies.

Editing

Just a little cropping, because there was a flower at the upper right edge.

In my camera bag

I walk around with my camera, an EOS 6D, the EF 100/f2.8, EF 16-35/f4 and sometimes a Tamron 150-600/f5,6. A flash is only in my bag, if I plan to make some shots with flash. I usually try to use the available light.

Feedback

Don't move to fast and get closer very slow. I use to take off the lens hood to have more space between the insect and the lens, So I can get more closer to it. And most important: Be patient if you try to make photos of insects. They often don't like it to see the big black eye in front of them. :-)
