Behind The Lens

Location

The image was taken at Studio local to me in Wigan called Zan Studio.

Time

This was a studio shoot in the evening at around 7pm I remember really looking forward to working with Jenny after seeing her work on a number of websites and in photographers portfolio's.

Lighting

I was looking to bring out the hair colour and the tone of the red but still try to keep the face from blowing out. I used one soft box on the left side of the face and a beauty dish on the right side of the hair. This seemed to have worked and I got the shot I was looking for.

Equipment

I used a Canon 100D for the image with a 50mm prime lens, Thats all I needed and was happy with the result. you dont need all singing and dancing equipment to get some great images

Inspiration

My faverite colour has always been red and when I spotted the model I new that I had to shoot a face / headshot to capture the colour and beauty.

Editing

The processing for the image was to add a little more colour to the hair and slight toning to the skip. Not much more was required due to the model had great skin and her. The lighting was the biggest help with this image.

In my camera bag

My bag is always ready to go with two cameras One Canon 100D and a 550D. 1 X flash. I have a number of lens's in my bag they consist of a 50mm prime, 18 to 200mm, 70 to 300mm and a 18 to 55 kit lens. I also have a 300 old prime lens but that only goes in the bag now and again depending on the shoot. A tripod strapped on the side of the bag with a few flash triggers and filter in a few pockets, not to forget memory cards and battery's.

Feedback

I have found over the years that lighting is what can make or break an image like this. Get that right and you are 80% completed.
