Location
This photo was taken from the dorm at college. We were able to enjoy this view while waiting for the elevator, and North Dakota provides some of the most beautiful sunsets I have ever seen. This one was too perfect, with the clouds appearing to come from the water tower, not to take a picture of. An excellent depiction of a quiet evening on campus.Time
This was taken at around 7pm at the beginning of the fall semester. I remember because we were waiting for the elevator to go get our late-night meal, a nightly tradition amongst my friends.Lighting
Natural lighting, slight editing to bring out the purple. Although it was so long ago, I can not quite remember.Equipment
Samsung Galaxy S5 cellphone camera. No flash, taken through a window.Inspiration
I wanted to share with my friends and family the amazing views you can get in a place that few people really know about. I love North Dakota and love sharing its beauty with as many people as I can.Editing
I just had some light balancing to do and sharpened the image a bit. Overall, the picture was great and just needed a few small adjustments. I spend a bit of time beforehand making sure that there would be no glare from the window, which was my main concern. In my camera bag
I use my cellphone more often than not, it is always on me and has an excellent camera. I also, usually have my Sony Cyber-shot G, a wonderful little camera, it does a great job of picking up vibrant colors and action shots and is small enough not to draw attention when I am trying to sneak a shot of a subject.Feedback
Always look up. The purples in the evening sky are an excellent color to set off a scenery shot, but you have to be prepared. Sometimes you have a half hour window, sometimes you have ten minutes. It helps, if you have a specific location you want, to go there multiple times. These pictures always look wonderful when taken in the fall and spring when the sunsets are fairly late.
