Behind The Lens

Location

I took the picture in our garden. In the warm summer of 2015. We had a lot of different kinds of bees and flower flies. The picture was for a meeting in the photographers association where i was a member of, at that time. And with a garden that was full of flowers and insects, a lot of time was spend in it crawling around on all "four" with the old DSLR + macro lens and ring flash.

Time

I took the picture a little before noon on August 1st. 2015 at 11:47 am. So the sun was already very sharp and hot.

Lighting

The sun was used as main light source, And i used my ring flash on lowest setting to soften up shadows

Equipment

I used my Nikon D90 DSLR and a Tamron Sp 90 F/2,8 Macro 1:1 f0004 VC USD and a Cheap ring flash ( purchased on Amazon)

Inspiration

I was doing a lot of macro photography at the time. And i was trying to get as close to the hover bee / fake wasp as i could.

Editing

Cropped the picture in Adobe Lightroom 5 added watermark and exported.

In my camera bag

At the time i Had a Nikon D90 with battery grip and extra battery + Nikon AF-S DX Nikkor 18-200mm F3.5-5.6G ED VR and Tamron Sp 90 F/2,8 Macro 1:1 f0004 VC USD + ring flash in my bag. And a few other old lenses. And those things are still in my old DX bag. Now i have a bag with my gear Nikon D610 +battery grip and extra batteries. Now i always bring my Sigma 50mm F/1,4 ART and my AF-S NIKKOR 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR and my Tamron SP AF200-500MM F/5-6.3 Di LD (IF) + Nikon SB-910 and the cheap ring flash from amazon. And most important. I bring my monopod a Sirui p-306 EU with a Andeer ballhead on. For when i use the Tamron 200-500

Feedback

Taking macro and close up photo's of insects, can be dangerous. Some insects have a tendency to chase you and try to sting or bite you. Don't get any closer than you feel it's safe.
