Behind The Lens

Location

At a small farmhouse in the midlands, KZN, South Africa which had been turned into an art gallery as well as a small and cozy restaurant.

Time

We had parked in the very small gravel car park adjoining this beautiful farm house, turned restaurant, when I saw these rustic wrought iron gates with very unique handle and locking system. I loved the large pot in the background and thought that the shape of the lock and the pot married up and were contradictory. One in man made metal, the other in man structured natural clay.

Lighting

As there was an overhang which lent shadow, I had to position myself ensuring that I could rely on the lovely overcast midday sun. Natural is what I love shooting in best.

Equipment

My trusty Nikon which stays by my side for quick finds. No add on lenses or tripods or flash was used in this natural take.

Inspiration

I am forever looking for beauty in what we see every day but pass it by, never give it another glance or another thought. AND yet someone took time, skill and desire to make or paint and create what they were so very proud of and what they liked. That's what I look for.

Editing

Nope, nope, nope

In my camera bag

I have a myriad of cleaning brushes and cloths as in South Africa in the Game Parks and Nature parks there is a lot of dust which gets in everywhere. So I am quite the cleaner of my lenses and camera. I have a small tripod, as well as extra batteries and of course the charging consul to ensure I am never caught flat, I also have extra cards for those special days when you can't click enough. Otherwise my Nikon, various lenses and straps.

Feedback

My advice to others is that you have 3 eyes, 2 which you are blessed with and your 3rd eye your camera and attached to all of these eyes is your creativity. Never be too afraid to see things differently, or play around with angles and heights. There is beauty in all around us.
