I’ve been working on some new stacking and blending techniques for upcoming workshops. This scene is great for torture testing! Blending and masking such a bright ground exposure through trees and leaves against the sky is a challenging task. I added a slight Orton glow to the final image. This was shot at Eagle Lake, Mount Desert Island, July 14, 2015, 12:05 AM, during a night photography workshop that I co-instructed with Mike Taylor and Vincent Lawrence.
Camera settings: 14mm, f-2.8, ISO 6400, 25 seconds for the Milky Way and ISO 2500, 400 seconds for the ground and trees.
Equipment used: Nikon D810, Nikon 14-24mm f-2.8, Promote Control, Really Right Stuff TVC-34L tripod & BH-55 ballhead. Dark frame subtraction with Pixel Fixer, RAW conversion in Lightroom, blended with Photoshop, and planned with PhotoPills.
