Location
I took this photo in Castelluccio di Norcia, in the centre of italy. It's a very small town, less than 10 people live there, it is on top of a hill and it overlooks a large plain.Time
Me and my friends planned this trip a week before, everything was ready and we started at 2 in the morning. After 2 hour by car we arrived there, my idea was to take a picture of a star trial so we looked around fot the right spot. After a short time we park the car and walking then I saw the perfect place with free view on the plain. I placed and starting to do my start trail. So the first light of sunshine was coming up, it was the time to go back. Then I have an Idea....It was around 4 am...Lighting
For this shoot I used one flash held by an helper exactly in front of the subject. I started my exposure of 15 seconds and I shout to him to light the subject.Equipment
I used A Nikon D800 with nikkor 14-24mm f2.8 on Manfrotto tripod, And for the light I used speedlight Nikon SB-910.Inspiration
I didn't planned this shoot. When I realized my first idea (star trail) I was ready to come back. I also was repacking my stuff, then I turned myself and I saw the picture in my mind and after a few minutes it was impressed on a D800's sensor.Editing
I didn't use a particular post-prcessing, just a few raw conversions, one for the sky one for the fog and the last for the foreground, and edit it in photoshop. In my camera bag
For a day trip I always bring with me my D800 and a analogic Nikon, F90x with a 400iso B&W roll. On camera is always attached my favorite lens, the Nikon 24-70mm f2.8. Then I have with the Nikon 70-200mm f2.8, 50mm f1.8 (for the F90x) and one SB-910 with a trigger. When I going to take a landscapes pictures I also bring the nikon 14-24mm f2.8. Everything is inside my LowePro fastpack 350 .Feedback
First of all you have to know perfectly how works your camera, every single button and all the function of the camera settings to have the perfect exposure. I think that you have to use the technical knowledge to realize the photo that you thought. I figure the photo in my mind and then I go out to recreate it. And now I have to say something about the subject, you have to know your subject, doesn't matter if it is a landscapes, person, an animal, a rock or a tree, walk around it, look at it, study it, more you will know about your subject and more emotions you will broadcast to the viewer. But remember behind a beautiful picture there is always a big technical knowledge...
