Behind The Lens

Location

Loch Ness, Scotland

Time

Early morning, the sun was just rising

Lighting

The light was being diffused a wee bit through early morning mist, making the scene surreal.

Equipment

This was shot on a Canon 5D MkIII, using the on board HDR function. The Lens was my EF 24-105mm f/4l is usm

Inspiration

Just the scene of the half sunken boat in the Loch with the mist around was quite alluring, and begging for some great shots.

Editing

Only a wee bit of colour correction, as I was testing the onboard HDR function.

In my camera bag

I always have the 5D mkIII and my 24-105mm lens. With that I usually add the wide angle (16-35mm) and sometimes my Telephoto (400mm). I always carry my Lee filters and plenty of cleaning clothsand of course the tripod.

Feedback

Early morning for the mist on Loch Ness is good. Use your Empheris to get the best timing for the sun. This shot was in early November (late Autumn) and getting the sun just risen is good for catching it coming through the mist. There are also plenty of opportunities along the lake, so take your time to find the shot's you want and get in place early.
