I'm a complete amateur, having mostly been taking photos with my phone or a compact camera in the last few years. My partner bought me the digital SLR (Canon 1200D) as a Christmas present - lucky me! I've since been playing a little with this and with editing on an iPad - I take as many photos as I can at the moment to try to improve my "eye" for what I like in a photo. I took the photo at the Wimpole Estate in Cambridgeshire. It was a beautiful day out with the family in early spring (unusually warm). The lamb was a few weeks old, resting with it's mother in a barn. We were taking a short break from looking at Tractors (sons obsession). The lamb looked so relaxed!Time
The photo was taken around mid morning, not ideal outside as it was too light, but in the barn where the lamb was resting it was very warm.Lighting
The lighting was pure luck....the sun was breaking through the barn doors and falling on the lamb - it looked very peaceful! It was too bright outside but just right indoors.Equipment
Canon 1200D and standard pack lens...taken free hand (there wasn't much time for a tripod with the three year old running everywhere).Inspiration
I enjoy photographing animals, trying to get them when there is a bit of character present in the photo. The lamb looked so at rest and very out of character for a spring lamb.Editing
I did very little post processing. I edited out the tag in the lamb's ear as it detracted from the photograph, but otherwise just re-framed the image to get the best of it. When I do edit I try to use Lightroom or Photoshop Fix/Mix as I can manipulate these on the iPad - there isn't always time in a busy family to get the Computer out.In my camera bag
Canon 1200D Canon 35-85mm lens Canon 80-300mm lens Neewer NW-985c speedlite flash (new acquisition but seems great value for money)Feedback
This is tricky....in my case I feel quite an amateur at the moment so my advice would be take lots of photos and try to look at them and think about which ones are your best and why (then submit and try to get feedback or run them by your friends). Look for the opportunities and watch out for how light falls on subjects!
