Behind The Lens

Location

This image was captured on the Huntington Beach Pier. I love to go early before the crowds show up to play with gulls.

Time

This image was take at sunrise to help add drama and atmosphere to the shot.

Lighting

I tend to gravitate toward backlit situations. I under expose a bit to help keep the details.

Equipment

I shot this with a Nikon D4 and 35mm

Inspiration

I love capturing the unique movements of the gulls at the beach. Trying to continually push myself to get new angles and wing spans of the birds is always a fun challenge.

Editing

I edit I'm LightRoom. With this image I added contrast/clarity and warmth.

In my camera bag

Im a simple girl and prefer to keep my fear simple too. Usually only carry my D4 and 34mm sometimes I'll take my 85mm along too but most of my work is shot with the 35mm

Feedback

I would suggest being patient and hanging at spots that have minimal crowds so you can move around and play keep things interesting without worrying about tripping over the crowds or them ruining your shot. The pier is a fun spot to shoot gulls because you have a beautiful isolated background to keep the distractions out of the frame.
