Great use of the tracks to bring the eye line towards the centre of the image. Along with the enclosed space of the buildings.

For me, the touch of blue really makes the photo, especially as echoed in the building in the distance.

Behind The Lens

Location

It was taken at an L train station on Wabash in Chicago.

Time

Around 11am. Normally I am more of a golden hour shooter, but the clouds and fog were making for epic scenes wherever I looked.

Lighting

I really like that because it was so overcast the lighting is completely even and it adds so much to the symmetry of the shot. I also loved that there was enough detail left in the clouds to bring out the definition

Equipment

Fujifilm X-T1 + XF 10-24 lens & Vanguard VEO 235AB tripod.

Inspiration

I've seen so many shots like these. And I had never experienced it for myself. I love symmetry in my work and I'm glad that I finally got a chance to capture my interpretation.

Editing

Yes. Processed in Adobe Camera RAW with final touches in Photoshop and Color Efex Pro. Lastly sent to my phone to make final color adjustments in VSCO.

In my camera bag

I always have my Fujifilm Cameras. X-Pro2, X-T1 and X100T are my goto cameras. Then a combination of wide to medium length prime lenses. And always my Vanguard tripod.

Feedback

This is one of those iconic Chicago shots. You'll have to purchase a day pass to the L-train but it's only $10 and very worth it. I've also captured a lot of long exposures here with the trains blurring in the tracks but for this shot I wanted to really draw attention to the symmetry and color of the scene, so I waited until there were no trains. But experimenting with different perspectives and shutter speeds here will allow you to walk away with so many different creative shots.
