Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken from a parking lot in East Broadway about two blocks to Rupet Skytrain station in Vancouver, BC, Canada. The skytrain was coming to the station from Central Valley Greenway and just passing a curve rail. It was about a 200 to 300 meters’ distance from where I captured the photo.

Time

It was about ten o'clock in the morning.

Lighting

It was a sunny day. It seemed a little too bright and I did not bring the len's hood along with me that day.

Equipment

This was shot on a sport mode with a Canon EOS Rebel T5 with a Canon EOS 55-250 mm zoom lens f/3.5 - 5.6 IS STM. No tripod, flash or any other equipment involved.

Inspiration

I was making a photo album on my Facebook and the topic was about Vancouver's Skytrain. I went to several skytrain stations like Science World, Brentwood, Waterfront and Metrotown etc. I captured over hundreds of images on this topic and picked 30 to 40 images to post in my Facebook album. It is my personal interest to look at different topics and to post regularly on my Facebook page.

Editing

I am an idiot when it comes to using the computer. I usually use the simplest editing program that comes along with the Windows program. I adjust the lighting, contrast, colors and crop. This photo was originally in color but I think editing it to black and white makes it look more interesting.

In my camera bag

Usually the first thing I pack is my most favorite 18 Mega Pixels Canon EOS Rebel T5 with a Canon EF-S18-55mm zoom lens f/3.5 - 5.6 IS STM and a 20.2 Mega Pixels Canon EOS 70D with a Canon EF 75-300mm zoom lens f/4 - 5.6 III USM. This would save me a lot of time from changing the lens. Secondly, I will also pack a backup 20.1 Megapixels Nikon pocket size camera Coolpix L28 in case both Canons are not working. I will also bring a mini tripod, a spare 32 GB memory card and a Canon RS-60E3 remote shutter release switch for city night shooting.

Feedback

My experience is to take as many images as you can from different views. Do not hesitate especially on shooting moving objects like sports, birds, animals and flying insects etc. because there may be no other chance if you miss it. Always try to shoot it first and then choose your best images afterwards. Lastly, check if you have the right setting mode before the taking any photo.
