I took this photo from my cubicle window at work on 44th street off 5th Ave. I had always had a fascination with the decayed and disused buildings in the area, and this one in particular was very appealing to me.Time
I believe the time of day was about 1:30 to 2:30, during the winter.Lighting
The natural light was really strong and it poured into my office window, so I knew the building was going to be well lit.Equipment
I think I used a Nikon D2x, with 24 - 120mm f/4.5 ~ f/5.6 telephoto. I'm not completely sure.Inspiration
I like the decayed look of old buildings that are from the post-war era, especially those from before the 50's and even the 40's. They still retain alot of the old New York flavor and spirit and it's almost like getting a peek at the past while it's still right there.Editing
I only sharpened up the image in Lightroom (5, i think), with some lightened exposure.In my camera bag
Now I normally have either my Nikon F2, Leica R4 or my Nikon D800 (when working in studio). I also carry a Nikon SB-800 flash, and a pair of Pocket Wizard triggers.Feedback
Keep your eyes open and always look for whatever catches you. Look for the contrast between the light and the dark areas of the subject, and balance them so they compliment each other. And keep shooting until you think you have it, then shoot 10 more for good measure.
