Location
This image was taken outside when I was in Reno, NV working on a project inspired by the French New Wave era in fashion. Hair: Josie Searles Makeup: Andrea HansenTime
This is one of my favorite images.I took this image around 4pm during the summer. I have worked with this model a lot and I know how to make her beautiful blue eyes glow with just the correct amount and angle of light.Lighting
Since it was during the summer around 4pm the sun was still pretty bright so I moved my model into a shaded area and had my assistant hold a gold reflector highlighting her face to make her eyes glow and stand out like they do in this photograph.Equipment
This was shot with a Canon 5Diii using my 85mm. I did not have to use a tripod or flash I only used a gold reflector to fill her face since she was in a shaded area.Inspiration
This image was actually a spur of the moment shot I got while working on this project inspired by the era of the French New Wave. She did not realize I was taking the image when I did. When I photograph my models I really like to capture what makes them unique using their "raw beauty" for example with this model it would be her freckles with her striking blue eyes. Some of my best images come when the model does not know I am photographing.Editing
Post-processing I did a light skin touch up, color correction, and a few lighting techniques to make the image look more dramatic. In my camera bag
My equipment bag usually consists of my Canon 5Diii, Canon 85mm, 50mm, 24-105mm, and 17-40mm. My go to lense is usually my Canon 24-105mm. Lighting: Reflectors, flashes, Bowen's studio lighting, beauty dish, and a halo light. Extra batteriesFeedback
When trying to capture a dramatic portrait of someone I would say the best images usually come when that person is not trying so hard to pose or model In a close up portrait like this one the eyes are the key because the eyes connect the viewer and the model, the eyes hold the emotion. Eyes are important and need to be in focus for a photograph like this one. Lighting is key to creating any image and I really believe post-processing will either make or break a photograph as well. You can take a beautiful portrait of someone or landscape and if you decide to use any editing software in post and you can't color balance correctly or use too much of something it will completely take away from the image.
