This fine building was built in 1836 by the Hope Family Apothecary as a general stores. It has a crest of some scales on its facade reflecting its origins. Two years later there was an accident when some gunpowder leaked from a barrell and the explosion lifted the roof as high as the church, killing all occupants and 4 tons of hay was scattered throughout Derbyshire.
