Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at Crescent Beach in Surrey, British Columbia, Canada

Time

This was my first time visiting Western Canada, March 30 2013. My friend took me to this beach, for a photo opp. We were there for most of the day and didnt even realize the day was about to close. We had walked so far along the beach and was actually heading back to where we had parked when the sun started hitting the water. It was breathtakingly beautiful, I took a ton of pictures that day, this, there was no strategic plan for this but I did love how the colors were making the reeds as shadows. I was thrilled, it captured exactly what I was seeing.

Lighting

No flash, was really the only lighting trick on this one :)

Equipment

My little Canon Rebel, she's an oldie, but i love her just the same ... Canon Digital ESO Rebel XSI

Inspiration

As mentioned before, I visual saw the reeds as silhouettes through that gorgeous sunset.

Editing

No

In my camera bag

I have 3 lens, just recently was gifted a portrait lens ... and I love it !! A couple lens filters, i do have a small tripod that i take on occasion but most of my shots are free hand

Feedback

I totally do this as a hobby and have been pretty much self taught. This is only my personal tips and tricks. If you are using auto focus, don't be afraid to move your camera around just a bit to get different shadows. Sunsets can be hard to capture the actual colours, there is such a short window, take a ton, you're bound to get a few true shots
