Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in Vava'u in Tonga close to a huge cliff.

Time

It was around midday. The mother was 'logging' on the surface! Her calf kept circling and then laid down on the face. One of the best encounters I had with Humpback Whales.

Lighting

Water color was a bit violet and it was overcast that day.

Equipment

I used my Sony RX100M3 in my Ikelite housing.

Inspiration

I enjoyed the time I spent with these Mother and Calf. They were very calm and let me take a great shot of them before leaving.

Editing

I just fixed the white balance. The water was very clean that day.

In my camera bag

I usually have either my Sony RX100M3 or my Canon 5D mark iii.

Feedback

Tonga is the best place in the world to be with Humpback Whales.
