Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken on a trip to the zoo with my family. I am a mom of a 9 year old who loves the tigers. This day they were hiding in the bushes so I made some noises to bring them out then caputured this photo.

Time

We got to the zoo early afternoon due to the drive away from our house. The photo was taken around two in the afternoon just after we arrived.

Lighting

The lighting was pretty harsh being around two in the afternoon and I wanted to give the impression the tiger was in the wild. My goal with this photo was to capture the tiger to make people care about the wild tigers and help preserve them. I set my camera up at the only angle I wasnt getting shadows then had to zoom to not see the fence in the background.

Equipment

This was shot handheld with my Fujifilm finepix SL1000 was taken at F6.5 with the ISO at 320, and at 112 mm.

Inspiration

I really wanted great family memories from our zoo trip. My main focus though was a photo to inspire people to save wild tigers. Their numbers are declining so drastically that they could be extinct in the near future I wanted to help bring awareness to that.

Editing

I didnt have the software at the time this photo was taken so no post processing was done. I had increased saturation setting on the camera prior to taking the photo.

In my camera bag

Right now my current equipment is a Canon T3 with my 50mm 1.8 lens, 75-300 lens and 18-55 mm lens as well as tripod, filters UV, ND, Polorizers, cleaning kits, remote trigger, and batteries as well as my Fujifilm finepix SL1000.

Feedback

I would say look at the area your shooting make sure if its a zoo shot your not capturing fences or other things that would make it pop out as a zoo shot. Wait till you get the reaction on the animal your waiting for patience is your friend when working with animals especially wild animals. If your patient and your subject cooperates you have the chance for a great photo. With big game animals if they are hiding practice making deer bleats without a device just your mouth and that will normally make them come running to find out whats going on.
