Location
I took the photo in Tauranga New Zealand while out on a walk. I passed an old workshop and saw this old rusted chain.Time
I think it was around midday and as I had no tripod I shot this photo hand-held.Lighting
I wanted this photo to look almost abstract so had to try and move around using the available light to try and get the spiderweb clearly visible - it wasn't easy as the light was quite harsh, but after almost lying flat down on the ground managed to get this shot. Lesson to photographers - take something to lie on when out shooting!Equipment
I used a Nikon D300 with a Sigma 28-70 macro lens. No other equipment ass used.Inspiration
When I saw this chain and the web I immediately thought of the contrast between natural chains and man-made chains. The things that bind us and keep us in one place, trapped in place unable to break free. This looks like nature binding humanity. There are so many metaphors in this image - the most powerful for me is that is you are chained and stuck in life you deteriorate and rust, so you have to keep moving forward no matter the obstacles.Editing
I think I used a bit of color balancing and a but of contrast. In my camera bag
Nikon D300, Nikon D600, Sigma 70-200 2.8, Sigma 28-70 2.8.Feedback
Be observant when walking as often we focus on the big landscapes of scenes and miss the small rusted bits and piece of life going on right under our noses that can make powerful evocative shots
