Behind The Lens
Location
This picture was taken at my friend's very large goat farm in Lebanon, Tennessee. They raise and breed high quality, and very tame goats. When he calls their names they come running. It's too sweet to watch.Time
This picture was taken around mid morning, June 2015. All the goats had already eaten and were pretty laid back by this point.Lighting
My view on the lighting is, I like it natural. I prefer shooting nature or street shots and most of the time there is no time for a flash. Sometimes a little (or lot) of shadow from the sun is what makes a picture have character.Equipment
I use a Canon EOS T3I Rebel. I used the standard EF-S 18-55mm lens, no flash, on the sports setting because the goats (especially the babies) move around so fast and will get pretty close to you.Inspiration
A couple of friends and I wanted to get some good farm shots when this little jewel came up behind me. Her name was Cami and she was born with a deformed face. Her mother rejected her at birth and she was bottle fed until she was released into the fold. I found her so beautiful and captivating. I wanted to capture her personality and the love in her face.Editing
I used photoshop elements to crop it and to brighten it up someIn my camera bag
The lens that stays on my camera right now is a Canon 70-200mm f/4L. I normally enjoy capturing images that are a little further away so this is a perfect lens for me. Other than that I have the 18-55mm, my tripod, extra batteries, and extra memory cards. If I am in need of anything different, I will rent a good lens for walking around. My favorite in the Canon 24-70mm f/4L IS (that I will one day own :-) )Feedback
Be patient with goats. And be gentle and kind. My friends goats are very tame (he names them ALL) but they can still be skittish if you push them too hard. I just sat on the ground and let them come to me. When Cami came up behind me, I didn't jump, I just turned gently and started shooting. They are curious animals and some are like dogs. They will jump in your lap if you let them.
