Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in Calgary, Alberta, Canada in a neighborhood called Marda Loop

Time

I often don't shoot at this time of the day, around 3 - 4 pm since the light is a bit harsh when shooting portraits but this day was overcast and it made the perfect soft light.

Lighting

It was all about natural light finding the right spot to shine that gorgeous model

Equipment

I used an 85 mm f1.8 on a Nikon D810 body, no tripod, no flash, just that beauty and me

Inspiration

It was the result of working with a group of talented Makeup artist and hair stylist at the moment. The idea behind it was a bit the red of the Matador, Spain and the flower crown was a creation of one of the makeup artists

Editing

I did a bit of post-processing, I, of course, shot raw to keep the details and added contrast, played with the highlights and shadows, additional to that I increased the vibrance of the colors on the LR Saturation panel, finally I added some sharpening. After LR, I went through PS to enhance eyes, skin and clean a bit details on the dress, crown.

In my camera bag

When shooting this kind of portrait I like to bring my full frame DSLR Nikon D810 or D750, a 70-200 f2.8, 85mm f1.8, 24-70mm f2.8, Godox AD200 with an octabox

Feedback

Try to plan your shoot, the pre-production is very important for the results, try to get creative people in your team since it is not only about the photographer skill set, it is almost 80% MUA, Hair Stylist, props, and location is the other factor you need to think about. Once you have all that in place is all about being creative with angles, composition, lighting, try new angles, don't be afraid, at the end the only thing you will waste is battery and memory card, all is digital.
