Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in Lesa Italy, on Lake Maggiore. It is a World War I memorial for the Italian soldiers that lived in and around Lesa, that never came home. A light house on the lake to help their souls to return to their loved ones.

Time

This was taken in the winter, as the afternoon fog was rolling across the glacier fed lake, Lake Maggiore.

Lighting

The lighting of the day was nothing special, just a bit drab, in fact, I did not think these pictures would turn out very good. As a novice photographer, it has shown me that the lighting does not always have to be "perfect"

Equipment

I use a Fuji film Fine pix camera, fixed lens, no tripod or flash.

Inspiration

The monument was special to the families it memorialized. As a visitor, I was intrigued with the craftsmanship of the light tower. I wanted to see, with the camera's eye, what was special to people that were from there. From the iron work surrounding the lamp itself, to the dragon mooring rings. It was clear that a lot of effort, over 100 years ago, went towards the construction of this memorial.

Editing

No, the subject matter was the key, the lighting was how I was viewing it. I was hoping to capture that feeling.

In my camera bag

Sometimes I carry a mono pod, and I always have a remote shutter control, cleaning kit, and now I carry a level. With my Fuji camera, they have included everything a novice like me needs.

Feedback

If you can see it in your mind's eye, and realize that it may be interesting, try to capture different angles and positions. Close ups on the details or even the whole , can be very rewarding as an image that can leave a lasting impression.
