I took this photograph at the Social Market in Pretoria, South Africa. These ladies were walking past and I couldn't resist asking for a shot and late finding out that the designed some of the pieces they were wearing.Time
I had just gotten to the market, I remember it was about 12:30 so the sun was that midday heat most photogs stay away from, but I couldn't resist.Lighting
Mid day light isn't the worst idea in the world. Yes it can be challenging but understanding my camera helped me get this shot.Equipment
I was using a Canon EOS 1200D with EF 50mm 1.8 lens attached. It was impossible to carry anymore equipment as it was a market. Had to work with what I had. The pop- up flash on my camera did help accentuate their skin a bit more.Inspiration
These ladies were walking past and I couldn't resist asking for a shot. Took a lot of coaxing- this wasn't my first attempt. That's the challenge with photographing street. You have to make your subject comfortable versus rushing for a photo and moving on. I found out that they designed some of their pieces When I saw them I just loved the representation of Africa in their fabric and how gorgeous their skin was. They just caught my eyeEditing
Usually my editing is very minimal. I ran this particular one with my go-to-,Photoshop. Post processing in my opinion shouldn't make a photo especially since I was going for a natural, gorgeous street photo here. I used the dodge tool on their collar bones, eyes, forehead and cheeks. Anywhere with natural glow light on it, I added a dash on the dodge tool on an opacity of 25. Other than that, it was adjusting my levels and a adding saturation on the garments. In my camera bag
Canon EOS 1200D Canon EF 50mm 1.8 Canon 35mm art lens My reflector makes occasional appearances depending on where I'm going and if I'll have a buddy with.Feedback
Given that I was using a 50mm lens, I had to create a tad bit of distance since my camera is a crop sensor. With that distance you get a grey bokeh effect behind the subjects. My ISO during daylight stays at 100 especially with all the light with an f/stop of 2.8 at 1/60 shutter speed My focus point on the camera was set on all points so I could attain all of what I was capturing in detail. With holding my camera- I make sure I find great footing so I'm not too shaky- I'd had a few so that didn't help. Best tip: Get a great harness for your camera that wraps around your wrist, hold your breath to stay perfectly still and trust in the shutter.
