Location
I took the photo in a little town in Texas. The flag is painted on e side of an optometrist's office.Time
I took this at about 9:30 at night.Lighting
This picture was shot using the headlights of our van.Equipment
I used a canon Rebel T3i with an 18-55 mm kit lens and a Manfrotto tripod.Inspiration
My dad was in the military for a number of years, and I've always been fascinated by army men silhouette pictures. I decided to do my own spin on it by using shadows instead.Editing
I did some basic adjustments to the highlights, shadows, whites, blacks, and contrast, but nothing drastic was done.In my camera bag
I always have my Canon Rebel T3i and the 18-35 mm lens as well as the 75-300 mm kit lens. I always make sure I have extra batteries and a white balance card.Feedback
If you are trying for shadows, I would definitely say to practice patience. If not using flash boxes or strobes, it will take patience, as longer exposure times are necessary. Also, don't be afraid to go reshoot it if you don't get it right the first time. My first attempt at this shot, I had my old tripod, which was very unstable and not strong enough to withstand the slight breeze. Make sure your tripod is of good construction and is very stable. Above all else, let your creativity flow. This picture was not a planned one, but one I thought of as I was photographing something else entirely.
