This photograph has been provided by the NZ Airforce recon mission to all remote islands of Fiji affected by Cat 5 Tropical Cyclone Winston. This is Koro Island, once a paradise and now completely decimated by the cyclone. I am posting this image so the rest of the world gets a sense of how devastating this mega storm was. This island is completely flattened. Every building has been destroyed or rendered unsafe to live in. Approx. 4500 residents of this island have been evacuated to either the mainland or to Sydney, Australia. Residents recall harrowing tales of trying find shelter from 325 kmph winds in the dark of night as well as fighting to avoid being washed out to sea by 4-5m tidal surges.
