Location
I took this photo at a nearby river fishing hole. It is right next to a small bridge that goes over part of the Jordan River, at the edge two towns: Lehi and Saratoga Springs, Utah.Time
This picture of my neighbor's girls was only slightly planned. One snowless, unusually warm Saturday in February, when I saw that they were all home, I asked if they wanted to pose for me. I have not done many portrait photos, and I needed guinea pigs. I asked that they all wear jeans and a white shirt, and at about one in the afternoon we headed out to our spot, less than a half a mile away.Lighting
The natural lighting was perfect for that sitting. For the season, having the sun just off from the peak lead to a great shine to their hair, and minimal shadow issues. I asked them to relax a play, close together though, because natural smiles are the best.Equipment
I used my one, and only, bridge camera, my Canon T3i. It was my 55-250mm lens, only natural lighting, and a fairly steady hand.Inspiration
I really have not done any portrait work, I stick mostly to landscapes, and nature photography. The perfect natural lighting, and the thought to have a great photograph for my neighbor, inspired me to capture these girls enjoying eachother's company.Editing
I did minimal editing to add vibrancy to the background, and I increased the brightness slightly. In my camera bag
I usually keep the basics I my camera bag, my base, my 2 lenses, my battery charger, some macro and magnifying lense adapters, a telephoto adapter, and a cleaning kit. On occasion I will strap my tripod to the side. But I ALWAYS have my UV filter on my lenses.Feedback
I would recommend taking into consideration the season, the intensity of the sun during each season, and making your subjects relax and have fun ( if you want them to smile).
