This photo was taken at Anna Ruby Falls near Helen, GA. I had walked up to the main falls and when I came back down, I noticed this creek running by the parking lot so I walked down the path and found a good spot to snap a picture.Time
I remember this being a chilly day. I had traveled to the falls with my husband and parents. We were wanting to get out and get some exercise but for me, I wanted to snap some shots. It was also a very overcast day with a little bit of drizzle. Typically, I wouldn't try to get any photos given the weather situation, but when I came across this peaceful creek, I couldn't resist. It was away from the tourists and "off the beaten" path. Once I climbed down the path, the sound of the water was so calming. I set up my tripod, adjusted my settings and took the shot.Lighting
I wanted this image to try to convey the peacefulness I was feeling when I took it. So I decided on shooting it at a slow shutter speed so I could capture the soft water flowing over and around the rocks.Equipment
This was shot with a Canon EOS Rebel T5i, 18-55mm, tripod, remote and a neutral density filter.Inspiration
I came to Anna Ruby Falls with the intention of getting a lot of shots of the actual waterfalls but what I found was that when I explored places surrounding the falls, there were some great shots. Getting away from all of the tourists visiting the falls allowed me space and time to find a spot to set up my tripod. I loved the sound of the water moving along the creek. When I stumbled across this spot, there were so many rocks with water rushing over and around each one which was beautiful. Added to it was the peaceful and tranquil sound of the water. All in all, I wanted to try to capture and convey that with the image.Editing
Sometimes I find that I need to do some post-processing of my images either in Photoshop or Lightroom. However, this shot needed no post-processing. I felt it was beautiful just as it was.In my camera bag
I started out with the standard bag that came with my camera but as I've increased the lenses I own, I have upgraded to a backpack. I enjoy the ease of being able to have my hands free. But you can always find my camera, 5 lenses, set of neutral density filters, cleaning solution, and wipes in my backpack. I also carry my tripod, a pack of gum (cause I enjoy multi-tasking–shooting and chewing at the same time), headphones and my phone.Feedback
What's wonderful about Georgia is that you have lots of different landscapes to shoot in one state; mountains, lakes, rivers, streams, beaches, ocean and more. I've found that with photography, I have to be extremely patient. But it's not just patience, it's exploration. Be patient and take the time to go off the beaten path and explore. You never know what you will come across or find that not only has something neat to shoot but has unique lighting. Take the time to look up, down and all around you. If there is anything I have learned so far from photography, it's that I have spent most of my life looking down but photography has taught me to look up.
