Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken by the Ventura Harbor Marina as the sun was setting.

Time

Sunset

Lighting

I was hoping to achieve a nice silhouette of the sailboat masts against the orange sky.

Equipment

I hand held my Canon EOS T2i (Rebel) and used a polarizing filter at 55mm, f/8.0, 1/200 sec.

Inspiration

I love orange sunsets and silhouettes. Living near the beach, I often get ready with my gear in case there should be an outstanding photo op.

Editing

I cropped some of the foreground, slightly darkened the shadows to enhance the silhouette, and burned down the lamp post so it wasn't as bright.

In my camera bag

That day, I simply brought my camera, lens and filter. No bag or tripod.

Feedback

The sun sets quickly so take several test shots and tweak your manual settings as you click before the sun says goodnight.
