Location
The photo was taken at Omega Park in Montebello. It was shot from my car window and there was a grid fence between the wolf and I.Time
This was taken late in the morning, usually not an ideal time for photography but as you can see, it was snowing that day. Snowy days always create a magical effect, it's one of the best times to be out there shooting. Don't be scared by a little snow!Lighting
I love when the sky becomes a big white soft box, full of thin white clouds. You can shoot all day without having to worry about any harsh light coming from the sun. Nature becomes your own personnal outdoor studio.Equipment
Shot with a Canon 7D Mark II and a Canon 100-400 Mark II lens, from a car window (just trying to stay still, which was not easy), my elbow acting as a tripod.Inspiration
The wolves were definitely curious, approaching the fence, it was the perfect opportunity to catch them head on with that intense look and beautiful eyes, contrasting with the snow and their white fur.Editing
One of the most important thing in wildlife photography is to make sure the eyes are the center of attention. You want to enhance them naturally, without making them unnatural. The eyes really draw in the viewer to the photo. As for the rest, there was nothing much to do except to balance the whites properly and make the fur stand out as well.In my camera bag
It always seems your bag is too small for what you want to take with you, somehow! I usually carry my Canon 7D Mark II with the 100-400 II lens attached. That combo is really killer for any wildlife/action and I want it ready at any time. It's definitely the combo I prefer shooting with, the quality is great and it's light enough to carry around while hiking in the woods. I will also bring my Canon 100mm 2.8L if any macro opportunities arise, you ever know what you might find when you're out exploring in the wild. The last thing I take with me is the Canon 16-35 f4 lens for landscapes. Since I enjoy hiking, sooner or later you'll find some great views in nature and it's definitely a great lens to have. The last thing is my Gitzo tripod, strapped on the back of my backpack. The whole setup is pretty light and I can go anywhere with it easily.Feedback
A good advice is to go out when most people would not. A stormy, rainy or snowy day will bring some drama and magic into your shots, so always be ready to venture out. You will never regret leaving home and exploring, every time is different and will bring some new shots.
