Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken on a lake in Southeastern Wisconsin at a winter festival called "Circus on Ice" where there are professional kite flyers performing to music.

Time

This image was taken on February 14, 2016 around noon. It was snowing and the wind was blustering creating a windchill well below zero. My husband and I were newbies to the area, so it was the first time we had attended this festival and were truly amazed at the contrast of the colorful kites and windsocks against the snow filled surroundings.

Lighting

No special lighting was used in this photo, just the afternoon daylight on a very snowy day.

Equipment

This was shot with a Pentax K-50 18-55 lens. No flash or tripod.

Inspiration

I was inspired to take this photo because of the way the brightness of the colors contrasted so much with the snowy background. I wanted to be able to see the wind speed, the snow and even the cold through the photos.

Editing

No post-processing was done to this photo other than enhancing it a little.

In my camera bag

As I'm still very new at this DSLR photography stuff, my bag doesn't hold much except for my Pentax K-50 with the 18-55mm lens, as well a Pentax 55-200 mm lens, a small tripod and an external flash.

Feedback

The only advice I have for shooting is the winter is dress warm and remember the battery runs out quickly in a camera in the cold. That was a lesson I learned the hard way.
