Behind The Lens

Location

This is a photograph of Severn Ham, a flood plain in Tewkesbury, Gloucestershire, viewed from the Avon.

Time

Sunset!

Lighting

Contre-jour available light at sunset.

Equipment

Fuji X-A1 with kit lens on monopod

Inspiration

I spotted the strong sunset cutting through trees and took a few shots while on my way to photograph the boats and timber-framed houses by the Avon.

Editing

This is an HDR from 3 autobracketed exposures.

In my camera bag

Just the camera with a polariser on the lens.

Feedback

Set the camera to Autobracket 0, +1, -1, shooting RAW and JPG so you can choose from 6 files per shutter press or mix 2 or 3 of either file format in HDR. Stop down to minimum aperture for the starburst. Use fully manual focussing and exposure, which I wasn't using at the time that I shot this. I started doing that a few months later and the results are usually better than this photo.
