This photo was taken in Bethlehem, in the West bank. Since 1967 Palestine is being occupied by Israel and clashes between Palestinians and Israelis are a constant. In this photo 3 young Palestinians throw rocks at the Israeli army and are attacked back with tear gas.Time
It was a November afternoon, around 4PM. I was coming back from the Church of Nativity and heading to see some street art in the wall that divides the West Bank from Israel and found myself in the middle of some clashes between the Israeli Army and some young Palestinians.Lighting
I only used natural light in this photo.Equipment
This was shot with my phone, a Xiaomi Redmi 2.Inspiration
I lived in the West Bank for 3 months and during this period the Israeli occupation was a constant matter. Almost everyday there was a record of a demonstration, attacks, clashes, stabbings or deaths. I have seen the beginning of several demonstrations, most of then ending in clashes but I always managed to move away from the conflicts. In this day I was inside of a taxi and without knowing it the driver turned into a street where some of the clashes were happening. In one side young Palestinians threw rocks, in the other a group of Israeli soldiers fired tear gas. The driver got away from there as fast as he could but still I managed to take this picture and share the story.Editing
The photo was not post-processed.In my camera bag
I usually only carry my phone and my new Samsung NX300 camera.Feedback
In this case I wanted to tell a story and raise awareness for what is happening in Palestine. The best advice I can give for something similar is : go after your story. Be there. In this case the key is to be present.
