I took this picture at Glen Ashley beach, at Durbannorth Area. Often in Summer, the wave shorries are very very fun to surf or take photo of the wave while swimming. When they get big enough, it's almost like swimming in a dark hole in the sea, like a portal to another world.Time
it was just in the afternoon, maybe 1:00pm to 4:00pm. i'm not sure exactly when, but when you are having fun, time just flies quickly.Lighting
Often when you take picture with a Go Pro, it's very hard to get a clear crystal shot with the right colour, because the Go Pro Hero 4's ISO is pretty weird to use when swimming in the sea. What really give the Go Pro a really good vivid colour and contrast of the light that make it to be more clear, is the sunlight. So let just say if i take a picture on the wrong side, it will be very dark blue and not much of a vivid colour. But if you are on the right side, where you can see the sun while being in the tunnel like this picture, it can brings great result. Natural Sunlight is the key for taking picture of wave.Equipment
I used a Go Pro Hero 4, silver edition, attached to a handle, and I always tied it to my wrist with a shoelace so it doesn't get wash away or lost into the sea. Needless to say, you have to be a really good swimmer in order to get the right angle and good shot of the wave, sometimes the current of the sea is a challenge when you are trying to catch a big wave for a picture.Inspiration
My dad always told me to put your heart into everything. Also another reason, is that I love the Sea and the beach.Editing
Yes, because the Go Pro's ISO setting is auto, so often i'm not happy with it ISO setting when i take a picture. But here what I do in order to get the best shot, is to film. Because if I do single or burst shot, it would end up being very blurry and its auto shutter doesn't help either. So filming is a better option if you want to use a Go Pro to get a photo of a wave or tunnel, and after i'm finish with the shorries session, i would convert the film into photograph and choose the best one.In my camera bag
Nikon D5200, couple of filter lens, long len (58-200mm) and some other cleaning kits.Feedback
Durban is one of the most beautiful city in this country, and because Durban is famous for its beach, this photo speaks for Durban scene. There are so many beach spots to explore along the north coast and south coast, and it's always important to have fun while doing this. Just put your heart into it and spends a lot of time exploring. It can't get worst, it can only get better. If you are using a Go Pro Hero 4, it is more easier to film than taking picture with burst mode or single. After you finish your surf or shorries session, watch your film first to find the best shot you want, then convert it into a photo and work from there. Hope you enjoy reading. Now go have fun. :)
