Location
This photo was taken at our house, the little lizard was relaxing on our front door. I took the opportunity to get some macro photos and capture the colour in his eyes.Time
I love this photo and the opportunity to get up close and personal, he was about the length of my hand. It was taken in the late evening on a hot summers day. On the 9th February 2016, 6:31pm.Lighting
The front door faces west, with the sun setting behind me. There was harsh shadows on the door, and also glare from where the sun was shining through. It took a couple of shots to get it right, as the lizard was in the harsh shadow I ended up setting the shutter to 1/60 sec and aperture to f/8.Equipment
This was shot with a Canon EOS 700D, with Macro lens EF 100mm f/2.8 USM. I did not use flash or a tripod.Inspiration
It was an 'in the moment' photo, I was working around the house, came across this gorgeous lizard and ran back inside for my camera gear. As I am still learning and teaching myself photography, it was a great opportunity to get our my gear and have a play. I wanted to focus the photo on his eyes, they seemed to change colour between yellow and red, and were a very dramatic feature for the little grey lizard.Editing
I did not edit this photo much; a touch of increase contrast and darken the overall image a small amount. I originally took this photo at an angle, I ended up rotating it to portrait and cropped it.In my camera bag
I always have my Canon EOS 700 with the Zoom Lens EF-S (18-55mm) 58mm regularly attached. I find this lens a great 'go to' option when I am out and about. I also carry (50mm) 58mm EF lens, Macro EFS (55-250mm) 58mm lens and my second favorite lens Macro EF (100mm) 58mm. Always have spare memory cards, batteries, cleaning gear and tri-pod handy.Feedback
Getting up close and personal with animals can be tricky, patience is a big part here and timing. You need to be quick, in case they suddenly move off but you also need to not approach in suddenly so scare them off. Having all your setting ready before you get close is a must!
