Location
This was taken on a section of the Merrimack River in Bedford, New Hampshire. I love getting outdoors to try to capture the beauties of nature.Time
This was in the evening, shortly after a fresh layer of 6-8 inches of snow. The snow ended just in time to let the setting sun colorfully illuminate it. As soon as I saw the sun peeking out after the snow, I grabbed my camera and ran outside to capture a variety of snowy sceneries.Lighting
It was the golden hour. The sun was setting, and nature truly leant itself to allow me to capture the fresh snow.Equipment
This was captured with my Nikon D7200 and my 18-105mm f/3.5-5.6. No tripod as I didn't think to grab it when I ran out to capture the scenery.Inspiration
The beauty of the newly fallen snow weighing heavily in the trees and the sunset grabbed my attention. I headed to the riverbank on a whim which lead me to a wonderland.Editing
For this photograph, I increased the saturation a little, too bring a bit more color to the sky, and I cropped it to help bring balance to the image. In my camera bag
My Nikon d7200 is always there. My walk around lens is my 18-105mm f/3.5-5.6. It was one of the lenses I got with my first DSLR, a Nikon d90, and it works great in outdoor lighting and is light. Also, I love my 70-200mm f/2.8. It pairs well with the d7200 for all my sports photography. For fun, and to help me get my creativity flowing, I have a 50mm f/1.8. I use this to try to get an interesting new perspective on subjects.Feedback
The old adage of being in the right place at the right time was huge in capturing this image. The heavy snow fall ending in time for golden hour was key. The New England states have so many beautiful locations, and the four seasons help to accent the variety of landscapes. If you have the means to safely get to the hidden snow covered areas, as in this case, take the opportunity. It might be chilling initially, but the serene beauty can warm your imagination!
