Location
This photo of my daughter in law was taken a couple of months after the big day. The 2 of us set out to the Barrie, Ontario waterfront on a sunny December day for a fun photo shoot. We had a chance to bond alot that day and it's a memory I will cherish for always.Time
This is absolutely one of my favourite photos for many reasons. First, because it was taken 2 months after my son brought another girl into the family and I become a mother in law. This is my daughter in law Hannah. Second, it was a gorgeous sunny December snow filled day and we went to 4 different locations for our fun photo shoot. We both had a wonderful time that day and it brought us closer together as new daughter in law/mom in law. I will cherish that day and this photo for all time. This particular photo was one of the first taken that day. It would have been shot around 1 in the afternoon.Lighting
That day was sunny and we had to choose locations where the sun would not overpower the subject (Hannah) and wash out her complexion. I did not use anything extra that day in the form of lighting or shields but rather I opted for positioning her in such a way so that the sun did not shine directly on her. This did take a little effort, but was a great learning experience on how to use the sun to ones advantage.Equipment
This was shot with my Nikon D750, no flash, set on P mode with an ISO of 400.Inspiration
My biggest inspiration to take this photo and the others that same day was my daughter in law Hannah. She wanted a chance to put on her wedding dress again in a relaxed setting and just have some fun. I was also looking to increase my bride portfolio and knew she would be a perfect subject. I was over the moon when she wanted to do this!Editing
This image had no post-processing whatsoever. I lucked out with this one!In my camera bag
I always have my Nikon D750, my point and shoot Canon Power Shot with a 40x zoom, which is great for sunsets and moon photos. My Nikon 44 /AF-1 external flash, my nifty 50 lens (Nikon 50mm), which I love because it is very light in weight and great for grabbing quick photos, my got to lens that I will often use for a whole wedding - Nikon 24-120mm 1:4 G, my big guy that I don't use often but is great for grabbing wildlife photos from a distance - Sigma 50-500mm, at least 5 SD cards for various situations, and my handy dandy tripod! I also have extra batteries, power pack and breath mints!Feedback
Don't ever be afraid to experiment! I have captured some of my favourite pictures in situations that some have thought would ruin the photo. For example, pointing the camera directly into the sun, or trying a night shot without a flash. These are great ways to get used to your cameras settings through trail and error. In this digital day the sky is the limit! Back in the day, we had to throw out photos that didn't work out, but now we just DELETE them as we go. It's wonderful!!!!!
