Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in my yard while shooting macro.

Time

I shot this image in the early afternoon while my yard is alive with many subjects for macro shots of bugs.

Lighting

The little ladybug was in an ideal position, afternoon light was perfect in relation to the position of the subject.

Equipment

I shot this on a Sony a37, using a 30mm Sony macro lens & tripod.

Inspiration

I found the inspiration for this shot simply to keep improving my skills with the camera. Every day I'm experimenting with different styles & subjects. After viewing this image I was pleased with the colors & composition. I wasn't completely happy with the shot by any means, but the result worked for me well enough.

Editing

There was very little post processing on this image. I'm self taught & haven't got to the stage of learning many editing techniques yet. The most i do is a little brightness & contrast adjustments.

In my camera bag

The majority of the time I have a 100mm macro, 70-210mm, 50mm, & 20-35mm in the bag to use on my Sony a37. I'm a big fan of the old Minolta lenses. I always have the tripod handy for macro or landscapes. I sometimes use a macro ring flash or filters for something different.

Feedback

For an image like this I'd suggest that patience & a tripod are the most important things when capturing bugs close up. & of course a good quality macro lens.
