What would summer be without the distinctive sound of the Cicada? A remarkable trait of some species of cicadas is their extended nymph stage that can last 13 or 17 years. During this time they feed underground on the root fluids of deciduous trees. Once the adults emerge they only live for another 4 to 6 weeks.
