Location
The shot was taken near Miami Yacht Club/Jungle Island in Sth Florida. I stayed there on board my yacht which was docked at the MYC. The sun rises over the east and in the picture we look towards South Beach. On the right where the larger catamaran is docked is the yacht club's pier.Time
I woke up early, I think around 5 am......and one of the first things I do is to check the "outdoors" and the weather/light conditions if its good (perfect) for a decent shot of the scenery. That morning the sunrise had a very vivid golden orange appearance.......one of the seldom days ( just a few in the 3 years I was stationed there). I was lucky to be up and out at the right moments and happy to take this shot. As any morning photographer knows....the light condition changes rather quick and you dont have a lot of room to play.Lighting
Always be prepared for the scene you want to photograph....have you gear ready for action.Equipment
Nikon camera and lenses, freehand shooting. Nikon D610 & Battery pack, Nikon 28-300 lens 28mm @ f9, 1/40sec, ISO-100,Inspiration
the golden appearance, contrasting with the semi dark shades, soft tones, the glow in the clouds..... the calm water giving reflections, the peaceful setting, another day in paradiseEditing
hardly anything, I am not a fan of pp....i like the natural look. Sometimes i tweak a bit to bring out color or do light corrections. In my camera bag
I have a set of lenses, prime 20mm, 50mm, a 200-500 tele which I love a lot and a all situation lens of 28-300mm for day to day stuff. I choose my lenses depending what I am going after but the 200-500 is 90% of the time with me out in the field. A cable shutter release , lens cleaning gear, spare batteries and memory cards, pen & paper, plastic bag, quick release manfrotto tripod adapter, compass, screw driver, pocket knife, flash light, spare reading glasses, insect repellent, 2-3 lens filters, spare skylight filters, But it all depends on where I am heading too, I like it simple and I dont want to carry to much extra weight around. Sometimes i take my tablet where i can check my shots on a bigger screen.Feedback
Landscape and wildlife photography is not a point n shoot game, patience is the key, being prepared is also a important factor. Planning your shot ahead gives better results but don't force anything. If its not happening today it will come to you some day. Often I waited a long time to be able to take some shots I have been after and sometimes it happened while i was chasing something else and it needed very quick reaction and adjusting time.
