Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at Point Pelee National Park of Canada in Leaminton, Ontario. The tree is one of the iconic landmarks of the area.

Time

This photo was taken one early afternoon. I went with a fellow photography enthusiast friend to walk around the park and take some landscape photos. The tree caught my attention and I decided to play around on capturing its reflection from the water.

Lighting

I was intrigued with the tree's reflection. I wanted to capture a clear image of it as well as a clear image of its reflection on the water. Luckily, the water was still and it was ideal for capturing a clear reflection.

Equipment

This was shot on a Nikon D7000 using a 18-200mm lens.

Inspiration

Landscape photography always fascinates me. Point Pelee National Park is a beautiful park to visit and stroll around. I went with a fellow photographer friend to practice our skills and hoped that I would capture some interesting landscape photos. This photo was one of them.

Editing

I imported this photo into Lightroom. I played around and adjusted the shadows, highlights and saturation to come up with this finished product.

In my camera bag

At the time I took this photo I was just starting to get really serious into photography. I had Nikon D7000 then. I have since moved to a full frame camera, and now to the full frame mirrorless Nikon Z6. I usually have the 24-70mm f/2.8 and the 70-200mm f/2.8 lens in my camera bag. I also usually carry a tripod for long exposures and times when decide to do some bracketing.

Feedback

I find overcast and cloudy days when the sunlight isn't too harsh to be ideal for taking landscape photos. The cloud cover acts as a diffuser which also evens out the shadows on your subjects.
